Hello and welcome to one of my tutorials.

This tutorial shows you how to be a good admin in other servers, but mainly focuses on our hide and seek server.

You will be able to determine the differences, don't worry.

Ok where to begin?

Chapter 1 - What is an admin?

Ok well an admin (short for administrator) is someone who has in particular power on a server. These powers can include:

-Mani admin access.
-Es tools access
-Rcon access
-Props access (On our server)
And loads more.

The main tool used for admin, is an admin plug-in, like the ever so popular plug-in: Mani-Admin_Plugin.

Mani-Admin-Plugin

Mani is the most popular admin plug-in on all counter strike servers, and is used a lot on other game servers such as day of defeat source and team fortress 2.
It basically turns difficult to remember commands into easy commands, using scripts.
It also includes an easy to use, ingame menu.

Rcon

Rcon allows access the user to change the servers commands, and is the default admin for the server. Here you can change server settings like gravity, speed, time limits, etc.
It can also be used for access to some plug-ins, like es_tools, event scripts, and more.

There are 2 ways to use Rcon.

The first way is to use the rcon password (which is in ur server.cfg folder if you own the server).
To enable rcon, you simply type the command:
rcon_password thepasswordyoumadehere

The second way is much simpler. You simply get Rcon access on mani admin plugin, and type ma_rcon then your command.

Es_tools

Es Tools is a very handy admin plug-in to have. We wouldn't have the hide and seek mod without it.
You can do various things with es_tools, basically anything you can do with mani + more.
The only catch is, you need to remember each command and variable.

With Es_tools (EST for short) you can also transform your model.
A simple command like this:
ma_rcon est_setmodel <a eunique part of your name and without the "<>"> crow. This command will turn you into a blue crow.
You then need to set your color properly.
Command: ma_colour <a eunique part of your name and without the "<>"> 255 255 255 255. Will set your colour to normal.

Event Scripts

I've added this in because I think it's important to know.

DON'T FUCK WITH THIS, NO MATTER WHAT YOU HEAR.

This is reserved strictly for the server owner (ME)

Now that we got all 4 categories out of the way, we can move on.


Chapter 2 - Admin powers/purposes

Well, the purpose of an admin on a server, is to make it run smoothly, and so everyone has a good time.

Sadly, 90% of admins don't know this.

They think their powers make them better, and they use it to abuse people they don't like.

THIS IS REALLY WRONG!!

If i caught an admin doing this on my server I'd ban instantly.

Ok let's get back to it!

An admin must obey all rules that the owner sets. Fact. Cause when it comes down to it, the owner has the last say, because the ban button looks mighty fine sometimes.

Admins have powers others don't have. Such as slapping, slaying, burning, time bombing, teleporting, noclipping, banning, team swapping, and a lot more!

The main commands an admin needs to use are the following.

-Ban commands (only to be used if someone cant get it through their fuckign head )
-Kick commands (to warn people they are breaking rules)
-Slap commands (to enforce a rule, eg: no exploiting)
-slay (when someone is breaking rules)
-Team swap (When teams are unbalanced)

These commands are vital for any servers survival.

How To Ban Someone Properly

If you see someone breaking the rules repetitively, you will need to ban them.

Just follow these steps and everyone wins:

1. Let the player know they are breaking rules.
2. Get a demo of the player. (Do not warn if suspected of hacking/ghosting)
3. Get steam id by typing STATUS into console.
4. Warn the player that they are being banned and to appeal on the website (be sure to state the website URL).
5. If the player leave the server before you can ban, get the steam id you got earlier and type: ma_rcon banid 0 STEAMIDHERE kick. This will add the players name to the ban list, whilst kicking them off the server (Just to be sure )


How to Talk in admin chats

Well there are three ways to talk when your an admin.

NOTE: In these commands, do not forget to put a space between the "@" symbol and your text/name.

First is global admin, COMMAND:
(into public chat box)
@ Hello - Will appear as a light green Hello with (Admin) yourname in front of it.

Second is Admin only chat, COMMAND:
(Into team chat box)
@ Hello - Will appear as a dark green hello with (Admin Only) next to it, meaning only admins can see it.

Third one is Private messaging, COMMAND:
(Into public chat box)
@@ <unique part of targets name> hello - will appear as dark green hello, to your target only, no one else will be able to see.


When it is appropriate to abuse admin powers

Well it us usually never appropriate to abuse admin on another player without their consent.
On yourself though, it may be ok as long as it's for fun, and not to help you win around.
Basically you need to kill yourself before the round ends.

A few fun commands are (ma_rcon est_speed <name> 5)
That command will make you run 5x faster than normal.

Another command is (ma_rcon est_setmodel <name> <model name>
You will need a list of models, and DO NOT CRASH SERVER or I'll be pissed off lol.

There are more commands such as (ma_colour <name> 0 0 0 0)
Will turn you completely invisible, excluding gun.
This can be fixed with (ma_colour_weapon <name> 0 0 0 0)

Chapter 3 - How to spot someone Breaking the rules

In this topic we will discuss what to look for when spotting ghosters, hackers etc.

Ghosting

What is Ghosting?

Well, ghosting is when one player plays in game, and another player sits in spectate, or is dead in game. What happens is the player who is spectating, tells the other player where the enemies are, through steam chat, a private voip server, or whatever.

Ghosting is Very easy to spot.

If you keep an eye on the player long enough, taking various demo's, you can easily spot them walk straight to a person.
People aren't perfect, especially noob cheaters.


Hacking

Hackers are going to annoy you in every server, anywhere you go. That's actually why i got my own server all those months ago. You can spot a hacker a mile away, its just a matter of keeping an eye on them, they have to slip up somewhere.

Hacks to look out for:

1. Wall hacks and esp - allows them to see through walls, and what your hit box is, your name, the weapon your holding, your team etc.
2. Aimbot/Smoothaimbot - bots that automatically aim at a certain point of an enemy. Smooth aim seems to be more popular these days. It is harder to detect (still piss easy if you've had experience). It smoothly aims the gun onto any part of the enemy and fires. SO instead of click, appears on head straight away, bang, head shot. It's click, aim smoothly, hit any part of body, band, hit.
Also note that most hacks are toggled, meaning they can be turned off at the press of a button. So be aware if you suspect someone and see them acting normally all of a sudden.
3. Speed hacks/spinbot/fun hacks. - Just a bored person with nothing better to do. These are easy to spot, just look at them in first person view and watch them spin around and around and around lol.

Well that's pretty much it.

The only other thing, the most important thing, is be responsible, respect other players, enforce the rules of the server, and keep it safe and secure for everyone!
